Hi all,
I just bought a new B7800, it was delivered last Wednesday. Only put about 5 hours on it so far. In those 5 hours, I thought the HST sounded awfully noisy (squealing/whining), but being new to tractors, i didn't have any other experience to compare to. This morning I went to use the tractor and found the transmission would not engage unless I stepped REALLY hard on the petals. Even then, it sounded terrible and did not have the power it should. I inspected the transmission oil level (for the first time) and found it was basically dry! Then I discovered a small leak at one of the ports where the FEL hose attaches to the tractor...fluid leaks out whenever the FEL is lifted. Dealer was closed today, so i will have to talk to him tomorrow.
I am very concerned! I am not sure how long I ran the tractor with such low transmission fluid. Could i have done any serious damage to the transmission due to the low fluid level. I think this has to be the fault of the dealer, because I have hardly even asked this tractor to work yet and this hydraulic port must have been leaking from the very beginning.
Any advice for me before I talk to the dealer tomorrow?

Sounds like my L3400[the post before yours]. Waiting with you to see if someone can help. Mine shows solid yellow color in the inpection window. Is there another way to check the fluid level? Also new to the HST's Ben ....

Contact your dealer ASAP and explain to him what you just did to us. Give the dealer the opportunity to make things right. I would be asking about an extented warranty at no cost or if the dealer will take the machine back if serious damage has been done due to running the machine so low on oil. ....

I'm with chief on the extended warranty. Running the tractor low on hydraulic oil can be very harmful. The hydraulic fluid is also the lubricating oil for the entire drive train. You want to be sure you get covered.
Checking the hydraulic oil level can be a little misleading on the dipstick. With the 7800, and some other models, you need to "dip twice" to get an accurate reading. When you first remove the dipstick, it can look dry. Insert the stick a second time to get an accurate reading of the oil level. For you to run the machine out of oil, you would need to leak almost 4 gallons of oil. Possible, but you would have probably noticed it before you lost that much.
Make sure the dealer is involved with whatever you do. ....
